Critical Cartography Project:

Mapping Race / Place / Displacement - fall 2021

Students in the fall 2021 seminar were given this assignment. Start with a location that you could call 'home,' whether or not it is where you grew up or only passed through. This site (house/neighborhood/region) becomes the subject for your place-based investigation and mapping research. Source personal, familial, and publicly accessible data to develop a layered map that traces and documents lineages, movements, and displacements. Devise the most compelling way to tell the story of a place through multiple media representations (written/oral/visual accounts/documentation, geo-spatial data, artifact/material evidence/residue, critical cartography). Explore the layers and perspectives of habitation for the place you call home.
